Most of are familiar with programs that help feed the hungry. One of my local favorites is the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, an innovation, holistic approach to rescuing food and empowering people. For more about them, check out my ride with them.

New York City, however, is taking another approach. According to the New York Times, the city’s Department of Environmental Protection will be taking the geese that hover around the airport and threaten flight safety…and send them to feed the hungry in Pennsylania.
In response to protests about airport geese being dumped in landfills last year, the city will process and prepare these birds for consumption. Now that is a goose of an idea.

What an interesting approach to the goose problem!
Now that’s an innovative idea!
whaaaat??! i wish that i had been a fly on the wall during that meeting
WHAA WHAAAT!?!? THATS A HORRIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL *PROTECTION* AGENCY
killing geese and shipping them off somewhere else isn’t innovation, they’re still murdering geese.
Real innovation would be a non-violent solution but I dont see any positive reaction to that here.
I love the picture! Not sure what I think about the solution to the airport problem. After all, many people eat chicken, fish, beef etc. It would seem this would be an interesting response to the problem of hunger in America.
Nice. Someone really in the know must have hooked you up with this story. Foie gras and prosciutto (from the wild hog problem in the South) for everyone!
Gee, Melissa, I wonder who that was? =)
Ha…I love that beautiful goose. I wish I can have it as a pet!
Interesting that I watched a news segment on this very thing a day or two after this post came out. Not one mention was made of what would be done with the geese, only that they would be killed. Interesting.
