A fascinating study shows that babies’ palates are influenced in utero. Flavors, from garlic to vanilla, are passed from mother to child through the amniotic fluid. Babies then show a preference for the flavors that were first introduced in the womb.

So, if you want your kids to eat broccoli, eat broccoli when pregnant! (Mom, why did you eat so much chocolate cake? Sigh.)

I always wonder why my son always like what I like! He has sweet tooth like me and loves Japanese food no matter what kind (even something only adult would be interested). Then my daughter came along and she has different palate! She has my husband’s Taiwanese gene. It’s so interesting how they prefer certain food even though I feed the same food. But I agree. Baby should be exposed to all kinds of good stuff before they even get to choose what they like!
