Survivor winner Yul Kwon hosts PBS’s America Revealed: Food Machine and how the food system feeds over 300 million Americans everyday.

What does a potato farm have to do with the millions of pizzas eaten? What percentage of the population grows all the food Americans eat? Although sometimes the music score and narrative seems to glorify Big Food (i.e. cows going after grains after being weaned off grass like kids going after an ice cream truck), Kwon raises concerning statistics such as that 1/3 of the 45,000 items in the average grocery store is made from corn. He also explores the positive trends towards urban and organic farming, raising a critical question on how that could be scaled to feed a nation.

Interesting series on public television, but hopefully, it will be more than simply acknowledging the problems with our food system while glossing over them as necessities to ensuring that Americans continue to get their Bloomin’ Onions. Check out the program.
