Writer Tracie McMillan does as the title suggests – goes undercover working in grape fields, working as a stocker at Walmart, and an expeditor at Applebee’s to better understand how food actually gets picked, sold, and processed. She readily admits to her relief that her stints were short-term. While there is no real discussion or strong opinions made about solutions or policy changes, it is an interesting account of one woman’s observations into a world that separates her by race, class, and the dining table.
